  • Overview

    Utilizes sound technical knowledge of the business systems, materials, processes, and products to

    • Maintain sensitivity to safety aspects, processes, and practices
    • Maintain sensitivity to environmental aspects, processes, and practices
    • Provide documents required for production runs
    • Assure established procedures are followed
    • Evaluate production practices for efficiency
    • Identify process “weak points” for improvement
    • Provide all relevant information requested from the Business Units

    Responsibilities

    This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time:

    • Work with manufacturing departments to improve current production processes. Improvements would include, but not be limited to productivity improvements, set up time reductions, overall efficiencies improvements, and/or scrap reduction initiatives.
    • Provide financial justification for capital expenditures including multiple vendor quotations organized for a formal presentation to the Operations Manager.
    • Responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes, equipment, and plants (from pilot to fully operational) to achieve the production goals of the organization.
    • Identifies and develops process and equipment needed to produce specific products, parts, and components
    • Performs a variety of tasks
    • May lead and direct the work of others
    • Assist in providing technical support as it applies to changes to the production process
    • Work with subsidiary manufacturing departments as liaison to assist in the implementation of suggested improvement to the process and production procedures
    • Assist Maintenance Manager with the launches of new and/or different production projects.
      • Design of needed equipment as required
      • Building the systems (with the help of maintenance personnel or outside vendors)
      • Launching the process and making it production ready
      • Work with related departments to implement work instructions and routines
    • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
    • Other duties as may be directed

    Qualifications

    A bachelor's/master's degree and 5-8 years of experience in polymers engineer, chemical engineering or in a related area.  Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  A combination of education/experience is acceptable.  Certified training in business systems and processes. Desirable educational experiences include

    • Technology of plastics compounding and extruding
    • Familiarity with Word and Excel
    • Experience with electrical and mechanical systems
    • CAD skills
    • Working knowledge of Safety and Environmental laws
    • Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt
