  • Overview

    The person appointed to this key position will take overall responsibility for developing new materials and polymer technologies for SACO AEI. SACO-AEI is a major supplier of Silane cross-linkable cable grade compounds in global markets and has growing interests in expanding the product offerings for the wire and cable business and other markets.  The individual will partner with the Technical Service, Operations and Quality organization in Sheboygan, Aurora, and Sandwich to develop next generation materials across the business unites of SACO AEI. This position will have a major role in developing new technical platforms and developing new products for the entire organization.

    Responsibilities

    This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.  Incumbent will:  

    • Develop new polymer materials, source ideas from their own experience and actively cull ideas from published work, IP, and supply chain contacts
    • Utilize current internal work request and project management systems to execute projects
    • Follow up and hands on engagement to ensure practical work is soundly executed
    • Host project meetings and cross functional review
    • Follow the development process through their entire lifecycle from idea through verification and validation
    • Actively engage in the polymer, additive and fine chemical supply chain to acquire new ideas, concepts and solutions
    • Travel to end use customer plant locations for initial commercial launch
    • Keep up with the current state of the art via reading, industry contacts and industry engagement and “sell” new project concepts to the senior team
    • Partner cross functionally to improve internal procedures and project management systems
    • Use and help improve sound statistical experimental design tools to efficiently organize development outcomes
    • Commitment to good project documentation
    • Disseminate project updates and outcomes to Management and Commercial Sales Team

    The Incumbent will be responsible for both supervising and working with R&D Technicians during project assignments.  The role reports to the Technical Manager.  

    Qualifications

    Skills associated with BS Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Technology or Polymer Engineering plus 3, preferably 5 years working in a polymer formulation development position in the compound supply industry. For this position a graduate degree would be in lieu of industrial experience:

    • Previous experience in polymer material science
      • Strong knowledge of the structure property relationship of polymers relating to end use properties
      • Sound background in physical and rheological characterization of polymer materials.
    • Committed to utilizing and improving best technical practice
      • Solid understanding of statistical methods and experimental design techniques
      • Enthusiastic alignment with project management tools and techniques
    • Professional approach
      • Enthusiastic engagement in industry symposiums, trade shows and customer meetings
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills
      • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of program
